Aston Villa Vs Brighton

Watkins, Mings Secure Aston Villa Victory in Gerrard's Debut

Brighton's Losing Streak Extends in 6-1 Thrashing

Hat-trick Hero Watkins Leads Villa to Consecutive League Wins

Aston Villa's new era under Steven Gerrard got off to a flying start as Ollie Watkins and Tyrone Mings scored late goals to secure a thrilling 2-0 victory over Brighton in the Premier League. The win marks Villa's sixth consecutive league triumph, extending their unbeaten run to seven games.

Watkins, who was making his first start since returning from injury, opened the scoring in the 83rd minute with a powerful header. Mings then sealed the victory in the 89th with a close-range strike, giving Gerrard his first win as Villa boss.

The result piles further misery on Brighton, who have now lost their past five Premier League meetings with Villa by an aggregate score of 14-3. It also extends their winless run to six games, leaving them languishing in 16th place in the standings.

For Villa, the victory is a major boost in their quest for a top-half finish. They now move up to 11th place in the table, just five points behind seventh-placed Tottenham.

Gerrard praised his team's performance after the game, saying, "I thought we were excellent today. We played with great intensity and determination, and we created a lot of chances. We deserved to win the game."
